Amniocentesis
Quick answer
An older invasive prenatal DNA sampling method with a small miscarriage risk.
Amniocentesis draws amniotic fluid via a needle through the abdominal wall between 15–20 weeks of pregnancy. It carries a ~0.1–0.3% miscarriage risk and has been largely superseded by non-invasive prenatal paternity testing.
